Elon Musk stated that Tesla has no plans to release a smartphone unless Google and Apple start censoring apps and acting as strict controllers.

What we know

In an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Musk mentioned that Tesla could create a smartphone without Android or iOS, but this is not the company’s priority. He emphasized that Tesla would only pursue this if absolutely necessary, should Apple and Google start acting to the detriment of users.

Musk also noted that Tesla has software that could serve as the foundation for a smartphone, and the company could utilize the Starlink satellite service for communication.

However, creating a successful smartphone without Android or iOS is a challenging task, as demonstrated by Microsoft’s experience with Windows Phone. Even using Android does not guarantee success, as shown by Amazon’s Fire Phone in 2014. This could also explain why the billionaire is not investing in the creation of a Tesla Phone.
